Oregon Resort Home

The owners of a lovely resort home in Central Oregon were enjoying their house, but a steep slope made it difficult to venture outside. Thanks to a bit of welcome synchronicity, they called Artisan to replace a broken driveway light. A casual chat with the homeowner turned into a full-fledged landscape design project. The owners wanted to entertain outdoors, so designer Kevin Schaffer created a beautiful curving pool and patio, with plenty of room for comfortable chairs to gather around a stone fire pit. A nearby casita provides a full kitchen, eating bar, seating area and wood-burning fireplace, so it's easy to entertain without hiking back up to the house. But when it is time to head home, a set of curving stone stairs winds invitingly to an upper terrace and offers stunning views along the way.

Kevin also took advantage of the property's dramatic slope to create a multi-tiered water feature. "All though a lot of landscape design is created for the eyes, I like to have an element of sound too," explains Kevin. The pleasant sound of falling water encourages relaxation.

Thanks to Artisan, the homeowners are now enjoying their home inside...and out.
